Most of the time, tragedy seems to bring out the best in people. We’ve heard and seen so many great story’s out of Texas and across the country. Here are some you may not have seen.
Here locally CBS 13/Good Day Sacramento and KCRA 3 held telethons to raise money for the American Red Cross. After about 14 hours, the Sacramento area donated more than $1.5 million dollars between the two stations. Incredible!
J.J. Watt, who plays for the Houston Texans, wanted to help his city, so he is raising money for flood relief on the crowd funding site YouCaring.com/JJWatt. Watt originally set a goal of $200,000, which was raised in less than a day. Since then Watt has helped raise millions, at last check, more than $9 million, with no end in sight.
CNN’s Drew Griffin was reporting from Beaumont, Texas yesterday morning when a guy drove into a ditch filled with 10 or 12 feet of water, and his truck started floating away. But Drew and another guy ran over and pulled him out. Then he talked to them on live TV right afterward and thanked them for saving his life.
There’s also a new video of an elderly guy in Houston being swept away in his SUV. But about 20 people formed a HUMAN CHAIN to get to him. They got him to a hospital where he was reunited with his son.
There’s a picture now going viral of a massive line of people in Houston – wrapping around a building – they’re not trying to get into a shelter – all those people are waiting in line for their chance to volunteer! How awesome!
We also just got word that the CEO of MyPillow @realMikeLindell just sent 60,000 pillows to flood victims in the shelters in Houston.
And, Hollywood A-listers are joining together to raise money for victims of Hurricane Harvey. A telethon is scheduled for September 12th, with Jamie Foxx, Reese Witherspoon, Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan and Hilary Duff all signing on to host.
